Freedom Quinta is more than one person. A small, remarkable team of women and men surround this place with prayer, skill, warmth, and the kind of wisdom that only comes from a life genuinely lived.

About our host & founder

Beth grew up at the end of the road.

Literally. Her family moved to a Liberian village in West Africa when she was a baby – a community at the end of the track, surrounded by jungle and rice farms, where life moved to the rhythm of the seasons, the community, and the present moment. No hurry. No performance. Just people, land, and a deep sense of being held.

Her father and mother were missionaries, sharing the love of Jesus with those who wanted it. Beth grew up homeschooling in the mornings, running to the rice farms in the afternoons to chase birds with her friends, and gathering as a family in the evenings — reading, playing games, listening to the weekly radio story hour by solar-powered light.

It was a childhood shaped by rootedness. By the knowledge that you are known. By a God who shows up in ordinary, beautiful, human things.

And then the war came.

When Beth was ten, civil war shattered that world. From then until she left for university in the United States, her family moved from village to city to country and back again — always trying to stay close to Liberia, close to the people they loved, close to the work they believed God had called them to.

Beth knows what it is to carry grief and keep moving. She knows what it is to love a place and lose it. She knows what exhaustion looks like when it goes unaddressed for too long.

She also knows what it looks like when someone finally stops and lets God in.

A life spent connecting people with what they need.

Beth became a social worker — because connecting people in need with the right support is one of her greatest gifts. She worked in US child protective services, then moved into humanitarian work, carrying that same impulse across conflict zones and displacement crises: see the need, make the connection, be present.

And then Portugal. And a farm. And an invitation she couldn’t ignore.

Now ordained as a missionary with Novo — a mission organisation committed to igniting movements so that people can know and share Jesus — Beth brings together everything she has been: the Liberian village child, the social worker, the humanitarian, the person who has known both loss and restoration, and knows the difference God makes.

Freedom Quinta is not the product of a careful five-year strategy. It is the result of following a God who leads one step at a time. Beth was led to this place and to its unfolding journey by His guidance — and she continues to trust that Jesus, working and speaking through people, will show the way forward as new needs and new opportunities come into view.

This is not a place with all the answers. It is a place that is learning to listen. And it invites you to do the same.

Beth’s full name is Elisabeth Drevlow. She lives on the quinta and is present for guests throughout their stay.

Raised in Liberia. Trained in social work. Ordained as a missionary with Novo. Beth has spent a lifetime connecting people with what they need – and has found that what most people need, in the end, is the same thing: to be seen, held, and met by a God who has never stopped looking for them. She hosts, she listens, she prays, and she gets up early to check on the goats.

Bright, wise, and the friend you want in a crisis. Sue brings professional counselling skill and deep faith together in a way that gives people room to process what they’ve been carrying without feeling rushed or managed. She listens with clarity, speaks with kindness, and has a gift for helping people find the path forward.

Raquel prays the way some people breathe – continuously, expectantly, with great joy. She has a remarkable gift for hearing God and bringing His words of hope and restoration to people at exactly the right moment. Her inner healing ministry is gentle, Spirit-led, and leaves people genuinely surprised by what God can do in a single session.

At eighteen, Euridice chose between art and agriculture. She chose art, and blessed hundreds of children as a professor in a local academy for decades. Now retired, she has come home to the farm, and the result is extraordinary. She tends the garden and fruit trees with the attention of an artist, leads workshops in jam making and chocolate design, and cooks with the kind of love that makes every meal feel like a celebration.

The quinta’s energiser and champion host. Naomi is tireless, creative, and has never met a problem she couldn’t solve with a smile and a thousand ideas. She has been a driving force in getting the grounds beautiful and keeping them that way… and when she welcomes you at the door, you will know immediately that you are in the right place.

Charlotte knows how to tell a story that invites people in – because she came to this place herself in a difficult season, and found the rest and restoration it promised. She brings the farm’s story to life through design and writing, and has a particular gift for reaching the people who most need to hear about it.
